The 4GB CF Card is my choice, because there's enough space for future releases and the price for industrial high performance cards ( don't matter how much you write on it ^^) is really affordable.

I would like embedded sizes for at least 256 Mb, 512 Mb, 1 Gb and 2 Gb. We have a lot of customers using PFSense for years now so not all of them have big CF cards in there appliances. Is this also the solution for the upgrading problem of the embedded version? That would be nice so we don't have to rewrite the CF card anymore with a newer version.

I vote 4gb since that is the most common. Use the DD-WRT style of extra storage and mount a smb share. Then you can use FreeSWITCH and make the smb share read/write. I am guessing if we are all using BSD/Linux style routers, we know how to mount a smb share? Why not use that for any package that requires full time RW. That's my suggestion. 100base-T is plenty of speed for a smb share to dump voicemails on. I personally would like the embedded version to come with a package system. Let the admin choose how much he wants to R/W to his card. Just don't make it easy to install apps that require the CF card to stay mounted as R/W. Develop CIFS or SMB for apps like FreeSWITCH.

Mike: I was kind of wondering why myself. :) We will be putting out multiple sized images, it was really before that was decided. It's mostly out of curiosity at this point.

You still can get smaller CF cards but anything under 4 GB isn't common. There are a lot of existing cards out there though.

Yeah for something like FreeSWITCH, a microdrive with full install is probably the way to go.

We'll end up with multiple sizes, likely 512 MB, 1, 2 and 4 GB.
