Quick 1.2 update

We found some issues with lacking input validation on CARP IPs that allowed people to enter invalid configurations. Depending on what exactly is misconfigured, it could cause the system to enter a panic loop, rendering the system unusable.

Since this can be a significant problem, we have been thoroughly testing this area to ensure the improved input validation and other logic fully eliminates these possibilities for user error and typos to blow up a system.

Expect 1.2 final within a week.

    Just checked the logs, a 1.2beta2 machine I will be upgrading has only been down once in the last 6 months, due to power.

    Looking forward to 1.2-REL!

    I had a very serious problem last weekend. I had all my network down (about 50 users). The problem was a udp flood form inside to outside. I think that the firewall had to detect and stop it. I had the script that I found in the user directory. I can send you the script for your analisis.

    Configured properly, pfSense is the only open source firewall distro that can control something of that nature very effectively. You can get more help on that topic by posting to the forum. Thanks
