Multi-BSS (Virtual Access Point) Support Added to FreeBSD

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Sam Leffler committed changes to FreeBSD HEAD/8.0 adding support for multi-BSS wireless. This means in the future we can and will support multiple virtual access points on one wireless card.

This is not a MFC candidate and hence will not be in FreeBSD 7.x. pfSense 1.3 will be based on 7.x, so 1.3 will not have this support. The next pfSense release following 1.3 will be based on FreeBSD 8.x and will incorporate this. That’ll be a while, but it’s something to look forward to in a year or so.

Thanks to Sam for his efforts! I’m also looking forward to attending his wireless tutorial at BSDCan.
